HEROD PUTS JOHN IN PRISON
John called the people to repentance. Repentance reveals itself by producing fruit (good works) for God.
John used the imagery of harvest to describe events of the Second Coming – the deliverance of the righteous into Gods kingdom and punishment of the wicked in the fires of hell.
Because of his criticism of Herod Antapas’s marriage to his brothers wife, Herodias, John the Baptist was put into prison. Herodias had been the wife and niece of Herod’s brother Philip. Herod Antipas divorced his wife and married Herodias in violation of the Mosaic laws against incestuous marriage.
