Zedekiah Rebels Against Babylon (Day 78)

Read Jeremiah 52:1-34

Riblah was 200 miles north of Jerusalem. This was the Babylonian headquarters for ruling the region. Hamath was the district of Aram containing the nation’s capital.

A Message for the Exiles (Day 77)

Read Jeremiah 51:45-64

The people were paralyzed with guilt over their past. The Babylonian armies had desecrated the Temple, and the people were ashamed to return to Jerusalem. But God told them to return to the city because He would destroy Babylon for its sins.
In this last of Jeremiah’s messages, we find the twin themes of God’s sovereignty and His judgment. Babylon had been allowed to oppress the people of Israel, but Babylon itself would be judged. Although God brings good out of evil, He does not allow evil to remain unpunished. The wicked may succeed for a while, but resist the temptation to follow them or you may share in their judgment.

Babylon’s Great Punishment (Day 76)

Read Jeremiah 51:20-44

Grain was threshed on a threshing floor, where sheaves were brought from the field. The stalks of grain were distributed on the floor, a large level section of hard ground. There the grain was crushed to separate the kernels from the stalk; then the kernels were beaten with a wooden tool. Sometimes a wooden sledge was pulled over the grain by animals to break the kernels loose. Babylon would soon be threshed as God judged it for its sins.

Babylon Will Be Destroyed (Day 75)

Read Jeremiah 51:1-19

Winnowers worked to separate the wheat from the chaff. When they threw the mixture into the air, the wind blew away the worthless chaff while the wheat settled to the floor. Babylon would be blown away like the chaff in the wind. In Matthew 3:12, John the Baptist says Jesus will separate the wheat from the chaff.

Babylon’s Sure Fall (Day 74)

Read Jeremiah 50:4-46

God would punish wicked Babylon as He punished Assyria for what it had done to Israel. Assyria was crushed by Babylon, which Assyria had once ruled. Babylon in turn would be crushed by Medo-Persia, formerly under its authority. Merathaim was located in southern Babylonia; Pekod was in eastern Babylonia. These verses also look to the time when the Messiah will rule and Israel will be fully restored. No sin will then be found in Israel because God’s people will seek Him and be forgiven.

Habakkuk’s Prayer (Day 5)

Read Habakkuk 3:1-19

Habakkuk praised God for answering his questions. Evil will not triumph forever; God is in control, and he can be completely trusted to vindicate those who are faithful to Him. We must patiently wait for Him to act.

Paul’s Final Greetings (Day 50)

Read 2 Corinthians 13:11-13

Paul’s closing words and what he wanted the Corinthians to remember about the needs facing their church, are still fitting for the church today. When these qualities are not present, there are problems that must be dealt with. These traits do not come to a church by glossing over problems, conflicts, and difficulties. They are not produced by neglect, denial, withdrawal, or bitterness. They are the by-products of the extremely hard work of solving problems. Just as Paul and the Corinthians had to hammer out difficulties to bring peace, so we must apply the principles of God’s Word and not just hear them. That is the sign of a mature Christian and a mature church.

Paul’s Final Greetings (Day 15)

Read Philippians 4:21-23
There were many Christians in Rome; some were even in Caesar’s palace. Perhaps Paul, while waiting trial, was making converts of the Roman civil service. Paul sent greetings from these Roman Christians to the believers in Philippi. The Gospel had spread to all strata of society, linking people who had no other bond but Christ. The Roman Christians and the Philippian Christians were brothers and sisters because of their unity in Christ. Believers today are also linked to others across cultural, economic, and social barriers. Because all believers are brothers and sisters in Christ, let us live like God’s true family.

Promises for Zerubbabel (Day 5)

Read Haggai 2:20-23

A signet ring was used to guarantee the authority and authenticity of a letter. It served as a signature when pressed in soft wax on a written document. God was reaffirming and guaranteeing His promise of a Messiah through David’s line (Matthew 1).

Paul’s Final Instructions (Day 34)

Read Romans 16:17-27

When we read books or listen to sermons, we should check the content of what is written or said so that we won’t be fooled by smooth talk and glowing words. Christians who study God’s Word, asking Him to reveal the truth, will not be fooled, even though superficial Christians may easily be taken in (Acts 17).

Jesus Gives The Great Commission (Day 70)

Read Mark 16:9-20

When the two on the road finally realized who Jesus was, they rushed back to Jerusalem. It’s not enough to read about Christ as a personality or to study His teachings. You must also believe He is God, trust Him to save you, and accept Him as Lord of your life. This is the difference between knowing Jesus and knowing about Him. Only when you know Christ will you be motivated to share with others what He has done for you.
