Jeremiah’s Shattered Jar (Day 34)

Read Jeremiah 19:1-15

The valley of Hinnom was the garbage dump of Jerusalem and the place where children were sacrificed to the god Molech. Topheth was located in the valley and means “fireplace” and was probably where children were burned as sacrifices.
The horrible carnage that Jeremiah predicted happened twice: in 586 B.C. during the Babylonian invasion under Nebuchadnezzar and in 70 A.D. when Titus destroyed Jerusalem. During the Babylonian siege, food became so scarce that people became cannibals, even eating their own children (2 Kings 6; Lamentations 2). This was prophesied to happen back in Leviticus 26:29 and Deuteronomy 28:53-57.

Before you think this is cruel and inhumane, that such a people could do this to children, look at how many babies in this country are aborted (sacrificed) every year. Approximately 914,000 this past year. Look at how many children, in this country, are sold or lured into sex trafficking. Over 8,000 children from the ages of 5 to 18 have been lured and disappeared in sex trafficking this past year. And 80% of these kids will not make it out alive.
